We’re discussing the idea of having a BABA Bluegrass Cruise in the future and need to find out how many would be interested in sailing with us. It would be open for anyone not just members and we will be posting notices on several national outlets.

BABA Home Page

The Bay Area Bluegrass Association known as BABA, was organized in early 1986 and incorporated in 1987 under the Texas Non-Profit Corporation Act. The primary purpose of BABA is to preserve, encourage, and promote Bluegrass and Bluegrass Gospel music as an American art form. BABA promotes Bluegrass through being active in community events, fund raisers, festivals, and monthly shows.

We are proud to have supported our community in a variety of functions, fund raisers, festivals and shows. A few of these events have included: support to KPFT (listener-sponsored radio); The Seabrook Rotary; Crime Stoppers fund raiser; Armand Bayou Nature Center's Fall Festival; the Annual Fire On The Strings Bluegrass Festival; Bluegrass In The Park at League Park; Dickinson Parks Dept. concert series; and providing entertainment for area nursing homes, churches, and service organizations.

BABA Receives Recognition From League City

League City Mayor Jerry Shult's proclaimed October 10, 2006 to be Bay Area Bluegrass Association Day at the city council meeting this week. The award is in recognition of their excellence, dedication and hard work to promote not only Bluegrass music and musicians in League City, but also in the surrounding communities as well. They have been an active contributor for the past ten years, participating in events that include Clear Lakes Epicurean Evening, the fundraising fireworks on July 4th, and the Ballunar Festival. They have supported Clear Lake Crime Stoppers, Armand Bayou Nature Center Fall Festival, as well as area nursing homes and churches.

Topping off this year, BABA was selected to host the Texas State Mandolin Championship in August at the Johnny Arolfo Civic Center in League City. Their free Bluegrass music jam and stage show on the third Saturday of the month includes a special, innovative prize raffle. The drawing is made from receipts from purchases made at League City businesses the day of the show.

Slow Jam

The BABA Slow Jams have been a big success! To view the songs that will be played at the Slow Jams before each monthly show, go to the Song Book page, click on a song title, and a link will take you to that song.

Monthly Show

The monthly show is held on the third Saturday of each month at the Johnny Arolfo Civic Center (except December) at 300 W. Walker, League City, Texas and the FIRE ON THE STRINGS FESTIVAL at HOUSTON NORTH/LAKE CONROE KOA the third weekend of May. The monthly show is free and features Bluegrass from the local and national scene. The stage show begins at 6:30 PM, but pickers are welcome to bring their instruments and come earlier. The BABA kitchen provides tasty, inexpensive food and beverages (NO ALCOHOL). Door prizes are offered at every show.
